Building Codes and Loads
- If Mesco is determining
the load requirements for your project , you MUST identify the state and
county where the building is going to be built. Mesco will determine
the minimum load requirements based on MBMA and ASCE data. Mesco is
not responsible for determining the exact loading conditions for your local
building inspector requirements. Code and Loads as supplied by
Mesco must be verified by the Customer as acceptable for the local building
requirements.
- Building code and year can be
determined by contacting your local building department. For areas
that do not require building permits, we recommend that you allow Mesco to
determine your minimum load and load requirements.
- Roof Live load - Loads produced by
maintenance activities, rain, erection activities, and other movable or
moving loads not including wind, snow, seismic, crane, or dead loads.
The minimum roof live load is 20 psf. In some areas building codes
allow a reduction in the live load based upon the minimum area an individual
member will support. The minimum load under live load reduction is 12
psf. In areas where the snow load is minimum (less than 15psf), live
load reduction is usually allowed.
- Ground Snow Load - Load produced by
falling snow as measured on the ground. Ground snow is converted to
Roof Snow Load as calculated to act on the horizontal projection of the
roof.
- Wind Load - The load on the structure
induced by the forces of wind blowing from any horizontal direction.
- Collateral Load - The weight of any
non-moving equipment or material, such as ceilings, electrical or mechanical
equipment, sprinkler systems, plumbing, or ceilings.
- County - The county and state where the
building is going to be erected. County is required to verify the
minimum loads allowed in any certain area.
